Orioles May Seek Catching Upgrade for 2027 Season
The Baltimore Orioles are exploring the possibility of acquiring a more offensively capable catcher for the 2027 season, as they currently have Samuel Basallo, Carlos Narváez, and Yohel Pozo on their 40-man roster.
This past season, the Orioles utilized seven different catchers, including Adley Rutschman, who was traded to the Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline. Rutschman, a three-time All-Star, was dealt for a package that included Narváez.
Basallo, who is under contract through 2033, showed improvement this season, hitting 18 home runs. However, both Narváez and Pozo struggled offensively, with Narváez posting a low batting average after the trade. The Orioles may consider free agents or trade options to find a better hitting catcher to complement Basallo in the upcoming season.
