Oscar Piastri Discusses McLaren's Performance Issues Ahead of Singapore GP
Oscar Piastri has acknowledged that the McLaren MCL40 is experiencing major setup issues following a disappointing performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix, where the team fell behind competitors Mercedes and Ferrari.
Despite expectations to compete aggressively, McLaren struggled with a poor opening-lap tire strategy and a significant pace deficit, finishing with Piastri in sixth place at the Sepang International Circuit. Currently, the team is 240 points behind Mercedes in the Constructors' Championship, intensifying the urgency to address these issues before the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix.
During a media session, Piastri discussed the impact of the Malaysian track's rough surface on the car's aerodynamics, while also noting that the team's lack of competitiveness cannot be solely attributed to this factor. He emphasized that the MCL40 can be fast when set up correctly, but consistency has been a challenge. As the team prepares for the smoother Singapore circuit, Piastri expressed hope for improved performance.
