Oscar Piastri Highlights Overtaking Risks at COTA Due to Bumps
Oscar Piastri, driving for McLaren, raised concerns about a bump at Turn 1 of the Circuit of the Americas, likening it to a motocross jump following his seventh-place qualifying position for the United States Grand Prix.
Piastri finished 0.768 seconds behind pole position holder Kimi Antonelli, while his teammate Lando Norris qualified eighth after a track limits violation affected his final lap time. The track surface has been a significant topic, with Max Verstappen previously calling the bumps 'unacceptable'. Piastri noted that while most of the track has improved, the braking zones at Turns 1 and 19 remain problematic.
He mentioned that the drivers have communicated their concerns to the FIA, who are aware of the issue and are expected to address it for next year. Piastri also commented on a new building with cable cars at Turn 1, stating it enhances the atmosphere without significantly altering his reference points.
