Oscar Piastri Optimistic After FP2 in Mexico City
Oscar Piastri, driving for McLaren, left the second practice session in Mexico City feeling optimistic about his car's performance at high altitude. He noted that the vehicle handled the challenging conditions better than he had anticipated, despite experiencing difficulties during a soft-tyre qualifying simulation.
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit, located over 2,200 meters above sea level, presents unique challenges due to thin air affecting downforce and cooling. Piastri acknowledged that while the conditions were tough, they were not as problematic as he had feared, and he felt the team's overall pace was competitive.
Although Piastri described his soft-tyre lap as messy, he believes that with improvements, he could achieve a better position. He recognized the strength of Ferrari but expressed confidence that he could enhance his performance. Piastri also commented on the low grip conditions, indicating that they are consistent with this year's regulations, making it a familiar challenge for drivers.
