Otmar Szafnauer Considers F1 Return with a Different Role
Otmar Szafnauer, the former team principal of Force India, Aston Martin, and Alpine, has indicated his willingness to return to Formula 1, although he may not seek a role as a team principal.
During a discussion on the High Performance Racing podcast, Szafnauer reflected on his past experiences and mentioned that while he misses the competitive aspect of F1, he does not miss the travel associated with it. He expressed a desire to contribute to a team in a capacity that adds value, rather than returning to the team principal role he has previously held.
Szafnauer also shared insights about his departure from Aston Martin, where he lost a significant portion of his responsibilities following the appointment of Martin Whitmarsh as group CEO. He cautioned against having multiple leaders in a single role, emphasizing the importance of clear leadership structures. Since leaving Alpine after the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, he has taken on the role of CEO at Van Amersfoort Racing and co-hosts a podcast.
