Overeem Suggests McGregor Should Retire Following Injury at UFC 329
Alistair Overeem has voiced concerns regarding Conor McGregor's fighting future after McGregor sustained a torn ACL and meniscus during his return at UFC 329 against Max Holloway in July.
The injury occurred just over a minute into the match, marking McGregor's first fight in five years and his fifth surgery. Overeem believes that McGregor's return was primarily motivated by financial gain rather than a genuine desire to compete, stating that McGregor's lifestyle does not align with that of a dedicated athlete.
Overeem noted that McGregor's recent behavior and physical appearance suggest he is no longer in fighting shape. The injury happened while McGregor attempted a jumping kick, and while there is debate about whether the damage was preexisting, Overeem firmly believes McGregor should not continue in the sport. McGregor has not publicly addressed Overeem's remarks, and he recently underwent a second ACL surgery.
