Oyo Nyimba, Youngest Monarch, Passes Away at 34

Oyo Nyimba, the King of Tooro in Uganda, has died at the age of 34, according to an announcement from the kingdom's prime minister on August 28. He became the world's youngest reigning monarch when he ascended to the throne in 1995 at just three years old.

The king passed away around 10:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, although the cause of death has not been disclosed. His reign began following the death of his father, Rukirabasaija Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.

Despite Uganda being a republic with an elected government, traditional monarchies like Tooro retain cultural significance. The prime minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that the king had left an heir to ensure the continuity of the crown. The news of his passing has led to widespread mourning on social media and in the press across Uganda.
