Packers Add Long-Term Option on Offensive Line with Mekhi Becton
The Green Bay Packers have recently signed offensive lineman Mekhi Becton to their practice squad as part of their strategy to strengthen the offensive line. This move comes after the team added three offensive linemen during the season to address guard positions, with Becton being the only one considered a long-term option.
Becton, who is 27 years old and stands at 6-foot-7 and 357 pounds, has a notable background, having been drafted in the first round by the New York Jets in 2020. He played significant snaps at both left and right tackle before moving to right guard with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he had a successful stint. However, his recent season with the Los Angeles Chargers was marred by a shoulder injury, impacting his performance.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur expressed confidence in Becton's abilities based on his practice performance, indicating that the coaching staff views him as more than just a depth player. With uncertainty surrounding the future of several current guards, Becton could emerge as a viable long-term solution for the Packers, particularly at right guard.
