Packers Face Decisions on Contract Extensions for Key Players
The Green Bay Packers are evaluating potential contract extensions for several players as they approach the 2026 season. Among those under consideration are young defenders and a few veterans, creating a complex situation for the team's management.
Defensive back Javon Bullard, selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, has transitioned from deep safety to starting slot corner and is eligible for an extension in 2027. Safety Evan Williams, a fourth-round pick in 2024, has also established himself as a key player and will be up for a new deal next offseason. Edge defender Lukas Van Ness, already under contract for 2027, may also seek an extension after a strong start to the season.
Veteran safety Xavier McKinney's situation is more complicated due to a high cap hit next year, while cornerback Keisean Nixon is in the final year of his contract. Defensive tackle Karl Brooks and wide receiver Skyy Moore are also in contract discussions, with Moore recovering from an ankle injury. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who suffered a season-ending injury, remains a priority for the Packers as he becomes eligible for an extension next offseason.
