Packers Face Running Back Challenges as Jacobs Remains Exempt
The Green Bay Packers are currently managing the 2026 NFL season without running back Josh Jacobs, who is on the Commissioner’s Exempt List with no timeline for his return.
Jacobs has been unavailable since late August due to a personal conduct review related to misdemeanor charges from a May incident. Despite pleading no contest earlier this season, ongoing legal matters have created uncertainty around his status. Coach Matt LaFleur has indicated that the team has not received any updates regarding Jacobs.
In Jacobs' absence, the Packers' rushing offense has struggled, ranking last in the league with an average of 50 to 60 rushing yards per game. MarShawn Lloyd leads the team with 112 rushing yards, but his performance has been marred by fumbles. Analysts are speculating about potential trades, with Tennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard frequently mentioned as a target. Pollard, who has been productive this season, could provide an upgrade if Jacobs does not return. However, any trade would likely be a short-term solution as the Packers prepare for their upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys.
