Packers Kicker Trey Smack Struggles in Loss to Lions
The Green Bay Packers faced a challenging game against the Detroit Lions, resulting in a 20-17 loss on Sunday. Packers kicker Trey Smack missed a 26-yard field goal and had a 35-yard attempt blocked.
This season, NFL kickers have successfully converted 167 out of 170 field goals from inside 37 yards, making Smack's two misses particularly notable. The only other miss this season from that range was a blocked 23-yarder by Bears kicker Cairo Santos.
The last instance of a kicker missing two field goals of 35 yards or shorter in a single game occurred seven years ago with Patriots kicker Mike Nugent. Despite the poor performance, Packers coach Matt LaFleur stated that Smack will not be cut at this time, although his position may be under scrutiny.
