Jacobs was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list following charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from an incident on May 23.

Coach Matt LaFleur stated that he trusts Jacobs and believes in his character, while general manager Brian Gutekunst is hopeful for Jacobs' return before the season concludes. Jacobs was arrested on May 26, and the NFL's investigation may lead to a suspension, with any missed games counting towards it.

Jacobs' legal team has emphasized that the exempt list is a temporary administrative measure during the review process. The incident involved allegations from Jacobs' girlfriend, who reported being injured during a struggle over a phone. Police have indicated that surveillance footage supports her account, although Gutekunst has not seen the video.
