Packers Sign Defensive Tackle Mazi Smith to Practice Squad
The Green Bay Packers have signed defensive tackle Mazi Smith to their practice squad as they deal with injuries on their defensive line during the 2026 season. The team, currently at 4-2 in the NFC North, hosted a tryout for Smith, a former first-round draft pick, on Monday.
Smith, who previously played for the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets, is 6-foot-3 and weighs 337 pounds. He was selected 26th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft and has recorded 57 tackles and two sacks in 39 games. After being traded to the Jets in November 2025, he was released in August 2026 and briefly joined the Miami Dolphins practice squad.
The Packers' defensive line has faced significant challenges due to injuries, with key players like Javon Hargrave and Warren Brinson on injured reserve. Smith's addition provides the team with depth and the potential for rotational help as they prepare for their upcoming game against the Detroit Lions.
