Packers Sign Veteran Tight End Jonnu Smith

The Green Bay Packers have officially signed veteran tight end Jonnu Smith, while also waiving safety Tra Fluellen as part of the roster move.

Jonnu Smith, 31, was originally selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He completed the final year of a four-year, $3.175 million contract before signing a lucrative four-year deal worth $50 million with the New England Patriots, which included $31.25 million guaranteed. In March 2023, he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons for a seventh-round pick but was released by Atlanta in 2024. He then signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Miami Dolphins, only to be traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers along with Jalen Ramsey in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick. Smith was released by Pittsburgh at the start of the 2026 league year.

During the 2025 season, Smith played in all 17 games for the Steelers, starting seven and recording 38 receptions for 222 yards and two touchdowns. He was previously listed among the Top 100 Available NFL Free Agents.
