Packers' Xavier McKinney Critiques Officiating After Loss to Lions
Following the Green Bay Packers' 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions, safety Xavier McKinney voiced his concerns regarding officiating, stating that it negatively affects the team's performance. Head coach Matt LaFleur also expressed frustration with the officials but chose not to focus on them in his postgame remarks.
LaFleur acknowledged several contentious calls, including two roughing the passer penalties and an unnecessary roughness penalty against defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt. McKinney, however, was more outspoken, criticizing the quality of officiating and suggesting it is detrimental to the team's success. He indicated that he is willing to accept potential fines for his comments, as he believes it is important to address the issue.
While McKinney's remarks highlight the impact of officiating, he noted that other factors contributed to the loss, such as missed field goals by rookie kicker Trey Smack, which could have changed the outcome of the game.
