Padres Select Outfielder Dustin Harris

The San Diego Padres have officially selected the contract of outfielder Dustin Harris, making a change to their roster. In a corresponding move, infielder Sung-Mun Song has been optioned to Triple-A El Paso.

To create space on the 40-man roster, right-hander Lucas Giolito has been moved to the 60-day injured list. Prior to this announcement, reports indicated that Harris was present in the clubhouse while Song was preparing to leave.

Harris has had a tumultuous season, beginning with a minor league deal with the White Sox. After a brief stint on their roster, he was designated for assignment and subsequently claimed by the Astros, only to face the same fate shortly after. He returned to the White Sox before signing with the Padres. In his time with Triple-A El Paso, he has excelled, boasting a .350 batting average and a .617 slugging percentage over 29 games, with six home runs and a strong walk-to-strikeout ratio.

Currently, the Padres' outfield features Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, and Luis Rengifo, with Gavin Sheets often serving as the designated hitter. Harris adds depth to the outfield bench, joining Austin Hays and Jace Bowen, while Rengifo's versatility allows him to cover infield positions as needed.
