Pakistan Cricket Team to Meet King Charles Amid Controversy
The Pakistan cricket team will have an audience with King Charles this week, scheduled between the second and third Tests against England. This meeting comes shortly after a potential cancellation of their tour was discussed due to an interview featuring Suleiman and Kasim Khan, the sons of former captain and prime minister Imran Khan.
The interview aired during lunch on the first day of the second Test, where the sons raised concerns about their father's treatment while he has been imprisoned on corruption charges, which he denies. Prior to the interview, the Pakistan Cricket Board hinted at the possibility of not continuing the series, prompting the England and Wales Cricket Board to seek government advice.
Despite the controversy, the Pakistan team proceeded with their match as planned. Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles will meet the team for approximately 15 minutes in the gardens of Clarence House. This engagement was arranged before the series commenced. The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, is expected to attend the meeting.
