Panthers Release Backup Quarterback Kyle Trask

The Carolina Panthers have released veteran quarterback Kyle Trask, who is now a free agent. This decision was made today as the team looks ahead to the 2026 season.

With Trask's departure, the Panthers are expected to start Bryce Young as their quarterback, with Kenny Pickett serving as the backup. Undrafted rookie Haynes King, who performed well during the preseason, may be placed on waivers but could return to the practice squad if he goes unclaimed.

Trask, a second-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, had limited playing time in Tampa before being cut at the end of the 2025 preseason. He spent some time on the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad last year and will now seek another opportunity with a new team.
