Pato O'Ward Sweeps Milwaukee Doubleheader; Alex Palou Secures 2026 IndyCar Championship
Pato O'Ward achieved a remarkable feat by winning both races in the IndyCar doubleheader at The Milwaukee Mile, while Alex Palou secured the 2026 championship for Chip Ganassi Racing.
O'Ward, driving the #5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, made a decisive move on a late restart with 19 laps remaining, overtaking David Malukas to win the first race by a margin of 1.7535 seconds. This victory marked O'Ward's 12th career win and third of the season, making him the first IndyCar driver since 1981 to win two races on the same day.
Palou finished 10th in the race, which was impacted by rain delays, but his performance throughout the season earned him his fifth championship title, placing him third all-time in IndyCar championships. He expressed gratitude towards his team and acknowledged the challenges faced during the season.
