Patriots to Replace Turf Field Before Preseason Opener Against Colts

Following the conclusion of the World Cup at Gillette Stadium, the New England Patriots replaced the FIFA-mandated grass with an artificial turf field. However, this surface has been found to be noncompliant, prompting the team to install a new field before their preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday.

According to NFL and NFL Players Association testing protocols, the initial artificial surface did not meet required standards. Patriots chief operating officer Jim Nolan indicated that the new field being installed is the latest version of the one removed in January, which players are familiar with from the previous season.

The installation of the new field is taking place this week, with the game approaching quickly. There are concerns about whether the new turf will pass inspection, as past incidents have led to the cancellation of preseason games due to field issues.
