Paul Maurice Defends Winnipeg Jets Amid Hellebuyck Trade
Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice has voiced his support for the Winnipeg Jets, stating that the team remains a desirable place to play despite the recent trade of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils.
During his visit to Winnipeg, Maurice reflected on Hellebuyck's trade demand and the subsequent deal, noting that players like Jets captain Adam Lowry enjoy playing for the franchise. He acknowledged that while some players have left the team, many, including Hellebuyck, Mark Scheifele, and Kyle Connor, have chosen to sign extensions with the organization.
Having coached the Jets from 2014 to 2021, Maurice maintains a strong connection to the team and expressed his hope for their success, particularly wishing for them to win the Stanley Cup. He highlighted that player movement is common across all markets and emphasized the importance of celebrating current players while recognizing the contributions of those who have left. Maurice is scheduled to face the Jets on Tuesday, coinciding with Hellebuyck's debut for the Devils against the Dallas Stars.
