PCB Plans New Six-a-Side Tournament to Broaden Cricket's Appeal
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi, is planning to introduce a new six-a-side cricket tournament called PSL Sixes. This initiative aims to make cricket more entertaining for fans and to expand the reach of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The proposal follows Pakistan's withdrawal from the World Championship of Legends 2026 due to tensions with India. Salman Naseer, the league's chief executive, mentioned that discussions are ongoing and no final decision has been made yet regarding the tournament.
The PSL Sixes is envisioned to take place during the off-season and may feature a franchise-based format with teams representing various cities and regions in Pakistan. The PCB is also exploring the possibility of hosting matches in smaller cities and stadiums to engage more fans. This approach could provide opportunities for cricket enthusiasts in areas that have not previously hosted PSL matches.
