Penn State Alerts Students About Measles Outbreak Following 14 Cases

Penn State University has alerted its students about a measles outbreak after 14 confirmed cases were reported in Centre County, as stated by university officials on Thursday.

While there are no confirmed cases at the University Park campus, the outbreak has affected counties that host 10 of the university's campuses. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has reported a total of 424 measles cases statewide since the outbreak began, with 94 new cases in the past week.

Penn State emphasized the importance of vaccination, advising students without presumed immunity to contact their healthcare providers. The university mandates the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine for incoming students to help maintain herd immunity. Measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air, remaining airborne for up to two hours.
