Penn State Celebrates Awarding of One Millionth Degree

Penn State University celebrated a historic achievement by awarding its one millionth degree during summer commencement ceremonies on Saturday. This milestone comes 170 years after the university's founding in 1855 and 165 years after it conferred its first Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degrees.

With this event, Penn State becomes the third university in the U.S. to reach this landmark, following the University of Michigan and Indiana University. On the day of the ceremony, nearly 2,700 diplomas were awarded, officially surpassing the one million mark.

To commemorate this achievement, Governor Josh Shapiro will issue a statewide proclamation, and local officials will also recognize the milestone. Additionally, the Berkey Creamery plans to introduce a special ice cream flavor, chosen by the Penn State community, to celebrate the occasion.
