Penn State Drug Trafficking Ring Leader Seeks Bail Reconsideration

Agostino Abbatiello, identified as the alleged leader of a drug trafficking ring at Penn State, has submitted an emergency motion to contest a bail denial. This motion is set to be addressed during a preliminary hearing on September 2.

Abbatiello, a former student and member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, is accused of orchestrating a cocaine trafficking operation that reportedly generated over $123,500 in drug payments. He was denied bail on August 18 by District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker, who cited concerns about flight risk and public safety.

His attorney, Philip Masorti, argues that the denial is unconstitutional, emphasizing Abbatiello's lack of a criminal record and his voluntary surrender to authorities. The motion also highlights discrepancies in how other defendants in the case have been treated regarding bail. Abbatiello is among 13 individuals charged in connection with the trafficking operation, which allegedly transported cocaine from major cities to State College.
