Penn State Field Hockey Edges Out No. 18 Michigan with 2-1 Victory

Penn State field hockey achieved a 2-1 victory over No. 18 Michigan on Sunday at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. The Nittany Lions improved their record to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten, while Michigan fell to 6-7 and 1-5 in the conference.

Ella Gaitan was instrumental in the win, scoring both goals for Penn State. She opened the scoring early in the match after a penalty corner setup, firing the ball into the bottom-right corner. Despite a strong push from Michigan in the fourth quarter, including a goal from Matilda Gibson that narrowed the lead, the Nittany Lions held on for the win.

The match featured strong defensive plays from both teams, with Penn State's goalie Aby Deverka making crucial saves throughout the game. The Nittany Lions will next face Indiana on the road on October 23.
