Penn State Men's Soccer Suffers 5-0 Defeat to Rutgers
Penn State Men's Soccer faced a tough defeat at home against Rutgers, losing 5-0 on Tuesday night. The Nittany Lions, with a record of 2-9-2 and 0-6-2 in the Big Ten, struggled to regain control after conceding two goals within the first ten minutes of the match.
Rutgers took an early lead when Dan Karsten scored after a missed clearance in the Penn State box. Shortly after, Amer Lukovic's shot was saved but led to a second goal by Francesco Di Ponzio, putting the Scarlet Knights ahead 2-0. The pressure continued, and William Pierce added a third goal within the first 20 minutes, leaving Penn State in disbelief.
Despite some attempts to respond, including a few chances created in the first half, the Nittany Lions could not find the back of the net. The second half saw Rutgers extend their lead with a fourth goal from Thomas Angelone and a penalty converted by Nick Collins, bringing the score to 5-0. Penn State will next play against the Wisconsin Badgers at home on Saturday.
