
Penn State Men's Soccer Wins Season Opener Against Mercyhurst
Penn State men's soccer began their season with a 3-2 victory over Mercyhurst, marking the debut of head coach Rob Dow. The match took place at Penn State's home field, where the team rallied from an early two-goal deficit.
Mercyhurst took control early, scoring two goals within the first 21 minutes, including a penalty converted by Alvar Silva. However, Penn State responded with a goal just before halftime from Noah Foerster, narrowing the score to 2-1. The second half saw a turning point when Mercyhurst received a red card, allowing Penn State to dominate possession.
Joseph Sheridan equalized for Penn State in the 68th minute, and Toby Grant's assist led to the game-winning goal by Etienne Reck in the 84th minute. This victory made Dow the first Penn State men's soccer coach to win his debut since 2010. The team will next face Missouri State on August 23.
