Penn State Student Develops Philosophy Course Inspired by Guess Who?
Reyna Gowie, an undergraduate at Penn State and president of the Students Teaching Students program, is launching a unique philosophy course titled Guess Who? Identity, Recognition, and Representation for the Spring 2027 semester. The course will take place on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. in Ferguson Building 202 and has 20 seats available for registration.
The course aims to challenge students to think beyond physical appearances by encouraging them to explore identity through personal experiences, values, and relationships. Gowie's concept evolved from a final project inspired by the board game Guess Who?, leading to discussions that incorporate various philosophical traditions and cultural analyses.
Unlike traditional lecture formats, Gowie's class will focus on discussions, reflections, and collaborative projects, fostering an environment where students feel comfortable sharing their perspectives. Gowie, who has been involved with STS since her freshman year, hopes to inspire more students to teach and share their interests within the Penn State community.
