Penn State Women's Hockey Prepares for RIT Challenge
The Penn State women's hockey team is gearing up to face RIT again after losing to them in a September exhibition game that ended in a shootout. The Nittany Lions, currently ranked No. 7, will meet the Tigers in Rochester, New York, on Friday, October 30, at 6 p.m.
Since their last encounter, Penn State has improved significantly, achieving a 7-1 record in October. Head coach Jeff Kampersal emphasized the need for the team to be prepared for RIT's physical style of play. The Nittany Lions have been tested in earlier matches against top teams, including No. 1 Ohio State.
Key to their strategy will be the power play, where Penn State has excelled with a 24.3% success rate this season. Kampersal noted the importance of maintaining discipline to avoid penalties against RIT, which has a strong power play. Additionally, the team will need to start strong, as they have previously struggled to find their rhythm until later in games. The absence of player Nicole Hall, who is representing Sweden, adds another challenge, as she has been a significant contributor with four goals this season.
