Penn State Women's Soccer Falls to West Virginia 2-1
No. 23 Penn State women's soccer team faced a 2-1 defeat against No. 22 West Virginia at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, marking their first loss of the season with a record of 0-1-1.
The match began with freshman Anna Babcock scoring for Penn State just over ten minutes in, giving them an early lead. However, West Virginia responded with a goal from Olivia Shertzer to equalize before halftime. The Mountaineers took control in the second half, with Sophia Nickel scoring the decisive goal in the 67th minute.
Despite several attempts to equalize, including a blocked shot from Audrey Kulpa and a late effort from Bella Ayscue that missed the target, Penn State could not find the back of the net again. The Nittany Lions will play their home opener against Bucknell on August 27 at 7:30 p.m.
