Perth Bears CEO Anthony De Ceglie Steps Down
Anthony De Ceglie, who served as the inaugural chief executive of the Perth Bears, has announced his resignation from the rugby league club, which is set to join the NRL as the 18th team in 2024.
De Ceglie was appointed in May 2025 to help establish the club, marking the first NRL team from Western Australia since 1997. The reasons for his departure have not been disclosed, although reports suggest the board was looking for a replacement. His exit follows the earlier resignation of David Sharpe, the former head of football.
Gareth Holmes, the general manager of football for the Bears, will serve as acting CEO until a permanent successor is appointed. De Ceglie previously held senior positions at Seven West Media, including director of news and current affairs.
