PGA Tour Introduces New Match Play Format for 2028 Season Finale

The PGA Tour has revealed a revamped postseason format that will be implemented at the end of the 2028 season, featuring a two-week Tour Championship for the top 32 players. This new structure will take place at two prestigious venues that will rotate each year.

The regular season will conclude with the PGA Tour Championship Series Finale, a 72-hole stroke-play event involving the top 90 players from the season-long points list, all of whom will retain their playing privileges for the following year. Bonuses and awards will be finalized at the end of this event.

The postseason will consist of a match play format, beginning with a round-robin group stage in the first week, followed by a 16-man bracket in the second week. This marks a significant shift from the current postseason model, which features three stroke-play events. The PGA Tour aims to enhance viewer engagement and create a more compelling narrative throughout the season.
