PGA Tour to Revamp Season Finale Starting in 2028
The PGA Tour is set to transform its season finale beginning in 2028, introducing a new structure that includes two separate events. The first will be a 90-player stroke-play Championship Series Finale, which will determine the final points list, followed by a two-week Tour Championship for the top 32 players, conducted entirely in match play across two prestigious venues.
Kevin Kisner emphasized the advantages of this new format during a discussion on the Fore Play Podcast, noting that rotating venues can enhance sponsorship opportunities and benefit local communities. He explained that the operational responsibilities and charitable contributions associated with hosting events will be more manageable under this new system.
Brian Rolapp, a PGA Tour executive, indicated that the revamped Tour Championship will feature renowned venues, potentially including historic clubs that have not hosted the Tour recently. The PGA Tour is also enhancing its charitable initiatives, with a focus on community investment through its PGA TOUR Charities platform, which aims to connect the Tour's impact with local charities.
