Phil Foden Seeks Fresh Start with Manchester City Under New Manager
Phil Foden, a midfielder for Manchester City, is looking to repay the trust the club has placed in him as he begins a new chapter under manager Enzo Maresca. The 26-year-old player, who was named the Professional Footballers' Association player of the year in 2024, scored 19 goals during the 2023-24 season, contributing to City's Premier League victory.
Despite his past successes, Foden faced difficulties in the last two seasons, scoring only 10 goals last term and going without a goal in his last 31 appearances for club and country. Nevertheless, he signed a four-year contract extension last month, ensuring his stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2030. Foden expressed gratitude for the club's support and emphasized his desire to give back.
Foden, who debuted at 17 under former manager Pep Guardiola, has made 369 appearances for City, winning multiple titles. With Maresca now at the helm, Foden feels optimistic about the upcoming season, stating he is enjoying the fresh start. Maresca has acknowledged Foden's importance to the team and aims to help him regain his best form. City will play their first match under Maresca against Inter Milan in Hong Kong.
