Philadelphia Welcomes Two Country Music Stations
Philadelphia has recently added a second country music station as Audacy transitioned WTDY to US 96.5, marking a shift from its previous pop format. The new station aims to connect listeners with popular country artists, featuring songs from performers like Ella Langley and Luke Combs.
US 96.5 will operate without commercials until October 24, and it represents Audacy's 24th country station nationwide. The station's launch follows the success of Beasley's WXTU, which has been a staple in the area, broadcasting live from early morning until evening.
Despite stereotypes associating country music with southern culture, Philadelphia's diverse population and regional interest in the genre suggest a viable audience for both stations. The city, with its significant population, has previously hosted major country music events, indicating a potential market for this format.
