Philip Rivers in Talks to Coach NC State Wolfpack
The NC State Wolfpack are seeking a new head coach and are reportedly considering former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers for the position. Rivers, who played for NC State from 2000 to 2003, has engaged in serious discussions about returning to his alma mater after the dismissal of former coach Dave Doeren on October 24.
Rivers has spent the last five years coaching at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama and briefly returned to the NFL last December with the Indianapolis Colts. He expressed his affection for NC State, acknowledging the rumors surrounding his potential hiring while clarifying that no formal agreement is in place.
As NC State's all-time leading quarterback, Rivers could energize a fanbase that has been disengaged in recent years. His connections with former teammates in coaching roles may facilitate the formation of a competitive staff. Additionally, his son Gunner is already committed to NC State for the 2027 recruiting cycle, which could further influence his decision to take the coaching position.
