Phillies Appoint Peter Fatse as New Hitting Coach
The Philadelphia Phillies are set to hire Peter Fatse as their new hitting coach, following the departure of Kevin Long. This decision comes after a lackluster performance in the 2026 season, where the team barely clinched a playoff spot.
Fatse, who is 39 years old, began his career as a player in the Brewers' minor league system before transitioning to coaching. He joined the Minnesota Twins as a minor league coach in 2019 and later moved to the Boston Red Sox, where he served as assistant hitting coach before being promoted to hitting coach in 2021. However, he was let go in April 2026 after the Red Sox's slow start.
The Phillies' president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, has a history with Fatse, having worked with him during his time in Boston. The team is looking to improve its hitting performance, as only two players exceeded a wRC+ of 102 in the previous season. The hope is that Fatse's hiring will lead to better results in the upcoming year.
