Phillies Assign Steward Berroa to Triple-A Lehigh Valley
Steward Berroa has cleared waivers and has been assigned outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley by the Philadelphia Phillies. This decision follows his designation for assignment last weekend.
At 27 years old, Berroa has been designated for assignment four times in the past two years, but this marks the first instance where he has not been claimed by another team. This is also the first outright assignment of his career, allowing him to remain within the Phillies organization.
Berroa initially signed with the Blue Jays as an international free agent in 2016 and made his major league debut in 2024. Over the past three seasons, he has played 36 games for the Blue Jays, Brewers, and Phillies. His performance in the majors includes 49 plate appearances with seven hits and a .477 OPS. In Triple-A, he has recorded 17 home runs and a .737 OPS in 926 plate appearances. Despite his underwhelming offensive statistics, Berroa is valued for his speed and defensive skills in the outfield.
