Phillies Claim Andrew Hoffmann from Diamondbacks
The Philadelphia Phillies have announced the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Andrew Hoffmann, who was claimed off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks and subsequently optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Hoffmann was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks earlier in the week and had been listed as released by MLB.com. The Phillies made this move to fill a spot on their 40-man roster by recalling Félix Reyes, who was placed on the 60-day injured list due to a wrist fracture.
Despite Hoffmann's current injury status, the Phillies are interested in his potential, as he had a strong performance in the minor leagues last year, finishing with a 3.19 ERA in 42 1/3 innings. However, his major league performance this season has been challenging, with a 7.71 ERA in 11 2/3 innings before being sent to the minors.
