Phillies Narrow Gap with Braves After Nola's Strong Performance
Aaron Nola delivered a standout performance on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park, pitching seven innings in the Philadelphia Phillies' 4-1 victory against the Miami Marlins. This win completed a three-game sweep of the Marlins and allowed the Phillies to close the gap on the Atlanta Braves in the National League East standings.
With this victory, the Phillies reduced their deficit from 7.5 games to 4.5 games behind the Braves, who lost all three games to the Minnesota Twins. Nola struck out eight batters without issuing any walks and allowed only one run on five hits, including a home run by Javier Sanoja.
Nola's performance marked just the second time this season he pitched seven innings. His ability to maintain control was evident as he threw 100 pitches, with 68 for strikes. The Phillies now hold a two-game lead over the San Diego Padres for the second wild card spot, with 34 games remaining in the season.
