Phillies Place Caleb Kilian on Injured List Due to Oblique Strain

The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Monday that pitcher Caleb Kilian has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a strained left oblique. This injury comes shortly after Kilian joined the team as part of a trade deadline acquisition.

Kilian, who is 29 years old, was traded to the Phillies along with infielder Luis Arraez in exchange for pitching prospect Ramon Marquez. He has made four appearances for Philadelphia, with one particularly poor outing against the Nationals on August 5, where he allowed four earned runs in just one-third of an inning, raising his season ERA to 4.91.

This season, Kilian has pitched a career-high 47 2/3 innings, striking out 26.8% of batters faced but also walking 10.5%. His performance has been inconsistent, with a significant portion of his runs allowed coming from just a few games. The Phillies have not specified how long Kilian will be sidelined, but similar injuries typically require about a month for recovery. Chase Shugart has been called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill his roster spot.
