Phillies Re-Sign Tim Mayza and Hire Carlos Mendoza as Third Base Coach
The Philadelphia Phillies announced two significant moves on Thursday, as president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski confirmed the re-signing of left-handed reliever Tim Mayza and the hiring of Carlos Mendoza as the team's third base and infield coach.
Tim Mayza, who debuted with the Blue Jays in 2017, returned to the Phillies after a productive season where he recorded a 3.48 ERA over 67 1/3 innings. He had previously joined the Phillies off waivers from the Pirates in August 2025 and earned a spot in their Opening Day relief corps. Mayza is expected to continue in a middle relief role for the upcoming season.
Carlos Mendoza, previously the manager of the Mets, has been appointed to replace Anthony Contreras and Bobby Dickerson in Philadelphia. Mendoza had a record of 206-199 during his tenure with the Mets and led the team to the NLCS in 2024. His hiring comes after the Phillies' infield struggled defensively this past season.
