Phillies Recall Andrew Painter to Start Against Orioles

The Philadelphia Phillies have recalled right-handed pitcher Andrew Painter from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start their game against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. This marks Painter's return to the majors after last pitching for the Phillies on June 17, when he was demoted following a performance where he allowed six runs in just two innings.

In his time with the IronPigs, Painter showed improvement, allowing three earned runs over 11 innings in his last two starts. Interim manager Don Mattingly indicated that the decision to start Painter was made during the team's off day, emphasizing confidence in his current form. However, Painter's future as a starter is uncertain, as the Phillies may seek to acquire another pitcher before the trade deadline on August 3.

Painter's recent six-week stint in Triple-A was seen as a reset for him, with reports suggesting that his command and confidence have improved significantly. As part of the roster move, the Phillies optioned right-handed pitcher Brian Keller back to Triple-A after he contributed three scoreless innings in a previous game.
