Phillies Reliever Caleb Kilian Placed on Injured List

Caleb Kilian, a reliever for the Philadelphia Phillies, has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a strained left oblique, as announced by the team on Monday. This decision comes just a week after Kilian was acquired from the San Francisco Giants during the trade deadline.

The injury occurred during the 12th inning of a game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Citizens Bank Park, where Kilian showed signs of discomfort after allowing an automatic runner to score. Interim manager Don Mattingly noted that Kilian felt a grab in his side, and subsequent imaging confirmed the strain.

Kilian, who has previously played as a starter for the Chicago Cubs, is in his first full season as a reliever and had a 4.26 ERA in 45 appearances for San Francisco. He has pitched in four games for the Phillies, allowing seven runs in 3 1/3 innings. In his absence, the Phillies have recalled right-hander Chase Shugart from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
