Phillies Seek New Manager After Alex Cora Declines Offer
The Philadelphia Phillies have begun their search for a new manager following the dismissal of Rob Thomson this season. Alex Cora, previously viewed as the top candidate for the role, has reportedly declined the team's offer to manage.
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, Cora turned down an opportunity to lead the Phillies in 2027, stating he plans to take the season off. Despite being a sought-after candidate for various managerial positions, Cora's unavailability has prompted the Phillies to consider other options.
With Cora out of the running, Don Mattingly emerges as a leading candidate for the managerial position. Mattingly, who guided the team to a 79-55 record, has expressed enjoyment in his role with the Phillies and is expected to be a strong contender should the team extend an offer.
