Phillies to Retain Don Mattingly as Full-Time Manager
The Philadelphia Phillies are set to confirm Don Mattingly as their full-time manager after a successful 2026 season, according to reports from The Athletic. The official announcement is expected later this week.
Mattingly took over managerial duties in late April, stepping in for Rob Thomson when the team was struggling with a record 10 games below .500. Under Mattingly's leadership, the Phillies achieved a record of 79-55, securing a Wild Card berth.
Despite initial interest in Alex Cora for the managerial position, who declined the offer, the Phillies decided to retain Mattingly. He had previously signed a two-year deal as bench coach for the 2027 season and was considered for a front-office role if he did not become the manager. Mattingly's extensive managerial experience includes stints with the Dodgers and Marlins, where he earned NL Manager of the Year honors in 2020.
