Phillies Trade for Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian from Giants

The Philadelphia Phillies have secured a trade with the San Francisco Giants, acquiring second baseman Luis Arraez and reliever Caleb Kilian. This transaction was reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan and Bob Nightengale from USA Today.

In return, the Giants will receive right-hander Ramon Marquez and reliever Marty Gair, both of whom were not part of the Phillies' 40-man roster. Following this trade, the Giants' roster will consist of 38 players. Arraez, recognized as a top contact hitter, was anticipated to be traded as the Giants are currently 12 games behind in the Wild Card race.

Despite discussions about a potential contract extension for Arraez, no formal negotiations took place. He had signed a one-year, $12 million deal with the Giants earlier this offseason, opting for their offer to play second base. This season, Arraez has excelled defensively and offensively, boasting a batting average of .324 and a strikeout rate of just 4.5%, making him one of the most sought-after hitters in the trade market.
