Phillies Update Manager Search After Alex Cora Decision
The Philadelphia Phillies are currently evaluating their options for the manager position after Alex Cora announced he will not be available for the 2027 season.
With Cora out of the running, interim manager Don Mattingly has emerged as a potential candidate for the role. Reports indicate that the team may either conduct a broader search or retain Mattingly for another season, as he is under contract through 2027 as the bench coach.
Mattingly's connection to the organization is further highlighted by the fact that his son, Preston, serves as the general manager. The Phillies previously fired Rob Thomson in April and had attempted to hire Cora at that time, but he declined the offer. Mattingly's performance, leading the team to a 79-55 record as interim manager, may influence the decision to keep him in the position.
