Phoenix Suns Waive Haywood Highsmith
The Phoenix Suns have announced the waiver of veteran wing Haywood Highsmith as they finalize their roster for the upcoming season. This decision comes as the team aims to manage its payroll while being significantly over the luxury tax line.
Highsmith, who re-signed with the Suns on a non-guaranteed minimum-salary contract in August, had limited participation last season due to a knee injury. In his last full season with the Miami Heat, he averaged 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
The Suns are retaining Jamaree Bouyea as their 14th player and plan to keep their 15th roster spot open. Financial considerations appear to be a key factor in the decision to waive Highsmith, as retaining him would have increased the team's projected payroll by approximately $16 million.
